Reputation Management
It is well known that most of the media industries have regulatory bodies set up to protect the individual. The media is governed by The Press Complaints Commission. Advertising is regulated by the Advertising Standards Authority and broadcasting is regulated by Ofcom.
These bodies are intended to provide less formal and user friendly ways of obtaining a resolution to complaints within that particular area. However, it can frequently be the case that complaining can become something of a minefield through not following the correct procedure, complaining to the wrong body, or even using this option when stronger legal action would be possible and far more effective.
At Atkins we have obtained a large number of settlements for our clients by using these bodies. We understand how to communicate with them, when to give away a point and when to stand our ground. As a result we get issues resolved to our clients’ satisfaction without unnecessary delay. We will advise you on whether a complaint is the most appropriate option or whether formal defamation or privacy action would be better to protect your reputation or confidential information. In any event adverse publicity should not be ignored because of the potential escalation of a story left unchecked.
