Copyright is an important and wide ranging right that can be of tremendous value to you and your business. It covers a number of categories of work from architecture to dress design. There is a considerable overlap between copyright and trade marks and confidentiality.

It is a common misconception that there is a registration procedure to ensure you have copyright protection. This is not the case. Copyright automatically comes into existence as soon as an original and appropriate work is created. The important point is to identify what attracts copyright and who owns it. We will help you to do this and, if possible, ensure that you have the rights you want.

If and when you are established as the owner of all or part of a work you will need to decide what you want to do with it. It may be that you wish to hold on to the copyright and stop anybody else from using it. In this case it is important to take action against anybody who then copies all or part of your work without permission.

Alternatively you may want to take commercial advantage of your copyright. For example if you have written a book you will need to grant permissions so it can be turned into a film or television production. These deals can become enormously complicated and you require the sort of expertise that Atkins offers to be sure that the deal is being structured in a way that suits you best and not devalued in any way.
