Fees
Like most law firms we charge on an hourly basis. We have flexible rates dependent on the type of work being carried out, your financial circumstances and the complexity of the issue.
We are very open with regard to our billing and are happy to discuss any special arrangements you may require. We try to keep your costs down, and in any dispute if you are successful, your opponent will be required to pay a large proportion of your legal costs.
We pride ourselves on winning our disputes, and recovering your costs from your opponent. We always keep our clients fully aware of the amount of work we will have to undertake during a certain period of time and the likely fee for that work. We try to bill monthly.
In certain defamation and privacy cases, we may work on a Conditional Fee Agreement basis (widely referred to as "No Win, No Fee"). This essentially means that you will only have to pay our fees if you win your case and in these situations, the opponent tends to pay a significant proportion of these, if not all. If you lose, you do not have to pay our fees but you will still be responsible for the payment of your opponent's fees. It is possible to obtain insurance to protect you if you do lose the case, the cost of which can be recovered if you win.
As our costs are at risk in Conditional Fee Agreement claims, before agreeing to act we have to carefully consider the likelihood of success. It is a testament to our ability to judge these cases that, to date, we have never lost a claim undertaken on this basis.
We do have set rates for the initial application for trade mark and design right protection and so can quote you a fixed fee up to the point the application is made in order to assist your budgeting. After the application goes in the procedure becomes somewhat less predictable and so at this time we revert to our hourly rate.
The actual rate is dependent on the type of application but Denzil will be able to give you an accurate quote early on in discussions so please do contact him to discuss your requirements.
